What is "Pelagian"?

Pelagius was a British monk and heretic who lived during late 4th and early 5th century. Pelagius's particular heresy held that humans had free will and were responsible for their own moral actions. The only thing that mattered for salvation, he maintained, was good and moral action. Pelagius preached that each person must be held accountable for himself. As might be expected, his heresy never quite took hold.
